Lynn Johnson and her husband bought an eight-year-old spec house back in 1998. It was the perfect home for them and their children. As the years have gone by the kids have grown up and moved on, so the house needed a fresh start.
For the first project, Lynn wanted to tackle the primary bathroom which was original to the house. “It had carpet in the bathroom. Let me say that again, it had carpet in the bathroom!” said Lynn as she described her not so favorite room in the house. For years they knew they wanted to renovate, but they didn’t want to “just put lipstick on a pig”. They knew it was going to be a big task and they needed to find just the right contractor. The original bathroom not only had carpet, but also a wall of mirrors, a giant jacuzzi tub and low cabinetry with long, narrow countertops. Lynn was ready for an update and a design that matched her style.
They contacted several different contractors, but never felt like they were the right fit for the job. They were eventually introduced to Larry through a mutual friend and immediately knew Dero Reno was the right contractor for their project. “He’s a great guy. He knows his strengths well and what he can and can’t do. He didn’t make any promises he knew he couldn’t keep,” Lynn said about the first time meeting, Larry.
While discussing the vision, they decided to keep the existing footprint of the bathroom in order to keep the cost down, but everything else had to go!
Lynn worked with a decorator in the meantime to help finalize all of the details to make her vision come to life. The project was set to be completed in 6 weeks. “Larry did a great job stacking the subs in order to get the most efficient work done. I was very impressed”, she said. Though Dero Reno did their best to stay on schedule, however, you can’t do anything without a few hiccups here and there. Coronavirus was one of those hiccups. Lynn had decided on beautiful custom cabinets from a small shop here in Nashville, but when an employee tested positive, it put a hold on the whole project.
Another hold up was the decision to replace the hardwood flooring in the primary bedroom. The only way to the new bathroom was through the primary bedroom, so the bathroom work had to wait until the new hardwood floors were installed. Despite these small setbacks, it took only 9 weeks for Dero Reno to completely gut the bathroom and transform it into the bathroom of Lynn’s dreams! The bathroom now has stunning new tile, a beautiful custom shower, and custom cabinetry with gorgeous marble countertops. “I’m thrilled with it! I love it!” exclaimed Lynn. In fact, she loves it so much that she is already in talks with Larry regarding three more projects!
